Happy Children’s Day!
Koinibori
Kodomo no Hi or Children’s Day is a Japanese national holiday. It is a day set aside to respect children’s personalities and to celebrate their happiness. I am not Japanese, but here in Hawaii, Children’s day is widely celebrated. I don’t exactly know what I’m supposed to do to celebrate this Japanese holiday other than make Koinobori. A koinobori is a carp-shaped wind-sock flown to celebrate children’s day. The koinobori are using flown in groups, with the largest carp at the top representing the father, the second carp representing the mother and the third representing the children.

Today, my lil guy and I will make our own koinobori out of white kraft paper. I’ll come back later with pictures.
